May - ONE YEAR OLD!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR WJC5!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!!
Well, let me fill you in on your first birthday, since I am sure you won't remember it. It was quite an eventful weekend!!
It started off with Nana and Papa coming into town to celebrate your special day. They spent your actual birthday at home with you so you didn't have to go to daycare. At lunchtime, they brought you up to my classroom and all my students had a big birthday celebration for you. You enjoyed every minute of it and loved seeing the kids. You got to open presents and they loved your clapping that you did.

Then that evening, we put you to sleep as we anxiously got things ready for your big party. Around midnight however, you woke up very upset. I came into your room and you were burning up. I took your temperature and you were a sweltering 103.5. It was the highest temperature I had ever seen you have.

Nana and Papa were already in town, so I woke them up and called for Daddy. Everyone came up as we worried and thought about what to do. Do we just give you medicine, call the doctor? We decided to give you medicine and monitor you throughout the night. Needless to say, I didn't sleep a wink. I kept waking up and going in to feel you. As long as the medicine was working, your fever was down. The second the 4 hours wore off though, you were right back up to 103.5. That morning you seemed tired, but not horrible. We called everyone and told them you were sick, but the party was still on. Bad move mom and dad...

Everyone else had a fabulous time. They socialized, enjoyed the picture perfect day outside, ate great food and had fun. You however, slept the entire day and were just miserable. At one point you woke up and so I decided it was a good time for cake. I put you in your decorated high chair, put your birthday bib on, and gave you your special baseball cake. Everyone sang to you and you were happy. I thought you'd dig right into your cake, but you had no interest. Then daddy started to feed you. Bad idea number 2... you got so sick and then threw up all over me in front of all your guests. ;-o. It was quite a scene. Looking back on it now, if someone was video taping it, we might have won America's Funniest Home Videos!! You were such a trooper, you poor thing. Nana and Papa immediately took you upstairs and kept you there for the rest of the party. We got you a late afternoon doctor appointment and they gave you all you needed to start feeling better. All was well in a few days, but what a memorable first birthday you had!!

The next day when you were feeling a little better, you got to open all your presents. What a lucky kid you are!!! You got some pretty fun stuff!!!

Lastly in May, I had my first Mother's Day. Last year you were not born yet!! I had a great day and you gave me a very special gift that I will treasure forever!! It was a perfect Mother's Day and it was a great feeling to be honored and be able to be a part of such a special holiday for the first time. :)
Summer is just around the corner!! I can't wait!!!
